• Raktamoksha/Bloodletting is considered as one among  the Pancha shodhana.
  • According to Acharya Susruha it is considered as one among Panchakarma
  • According him, Raktamoksha alone is equal to all measures described in the treatment of diseases caused by rakta dusti
  • Blood maintains and supports the body, like roots supporting the tree. So the  blood is considered as life.
  • When the blood gets vitiated by doshas it causes  various diseases.
  • Raktamoksha is the procedure which expels out vitiated blood from the body.
